English Treacle Scones

Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon treacle
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons castor sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon mixed spice
1/2 cup milk

Directions

In a small saucepan, pour in milk and sugar and stir in the treacle until the mixture dissolves. In a large bowl sift the flour, salt, baking soda, cream of tartar, cinnamon and mixed spice. Rub in butter. When mixture resembles breadcrumbs, pour in the milk mixture into the dry ingredient. This will create a soft dough. On a floured surface and knead the dough lightly. Use a rolling pin to roll out to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut into circles of 2 inches. Place the scones on a lightly greased baking sheet. Bake in a preheated the oven at 450 degrees F for 15 minutes. Cool the scones on a wire rack. Serve scones with jam and butter.
